The Bulldog Trust are delighted to announce their 2020 exhibition ‘Hidden Fabric: Women; Textiles; Collectors’ (working title), which will highlight exceptional textiles held in seven regional museum collections in England, all originally collected in the twentieth century by pioneering women:

  • Edith Durham’s collection of Balkan textiles at Bankfield Museum, Halifax
  • Nima Poovaya-Smith, formerly Curator of International Collections who established the collection of historic and contemporary South Asian art and textiles at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, Bradford
  • Olive Matthews collection of 17/18th Century English embroidery and dress at Chertsey Museum
  • Enid Marx folk art collection and textile designs, Compton Verney
  • Muriel Rose (founder of The Little Gallery 1929 – 1939) textile collection, Craft Study Centre, Farnham
  • Louisa Pesel collection of Greek and Turkish embroidery, University of Leeds International Textile Archive (ULITA)
  • Jennifer Harris, Assistant Director (retired) who developed the contemporary textile collection at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester
